Role of women, phenomenal
Anthology 2013 Entries, English Poetry, March 2012 Contest |
Women, neglected by idle and apathetic folk
striving hard to pursue a career
as professors, doctors, nurses or pilots,
on wheels, on stage or in science labs.
I see you penning notes or a novel, perhaps,
at the bus stop and railway platform,
after leaving your office, rushing home
to help your children in learning.
I know, by fluorescent light
with drooping eyes in fatigue
you plan for the next day’s
breakfast, lunch and kids’ snacks.
I see you as the multifaceted,
glancing through the news paper
near the stove, while
making chapatti and brinjal fry.
I know, woman, you remember
your grand mother collecting twigs
at dusk, with the breeze
playing melody in woods;
spending sleepless nights
feeding all and nursing the sick.

Indeed an extremely lovely & beautiful poem in your unique style
The role of homely women in various fields & aspects so elegantly admired
The narration has its meaning, elegance & honor of a wonderful kind
Have loved the poem immensely indeed one of a very special bind
Hearty Kudos
@Vishvnand,
Medhini,
I agree with Vishvnandji.
Poem depicts in vivid imagery word pictures of a simple homely woman striving sincerely to fend for her family.

“I know, by fluorescent light
with drooping eyes in fatigue
you plan for the next day’s
breakfast, lunch and kids’ snacks.” – a woman’s work is never done, it is said.
Gion;
Thanks very much.
A reality put in very apt words. All chores, big and small, involve essentially one person, the woman of the house, and how she juggles her duties is so beautifully woven in words here.
@Soni parminder;
Thanks so much for your great
comments.
