One in six women may be blind

lucky as I am not that one

One in seven women may be deaf

fortunate as I am not that one

One in eight women may be dumb

better as I am not that one

One in nine women may be lame

well guarded as I am not that one

One in ten women may be mentally unsound

can raise my head as I am not that one

Even then, I pity myself –

I can’t see what the blind does perceive

I don’t hear what the deaf does hear

I fail to grasp what the dumb does through pep talk

I don’t venture to move as the lame does

I can’t claim such clarity, self esteem

and purity as the differently abled.

    Medhini,
a great insight on Life and a great reflection on the author.
I wondered at the use of “does” instead of (do) in the poem.
It is very well chosen in the context, for the deaf, the dumb, the lame thus stand not as part of an anonymous collective but as individuals whether known or unknown to you,

An outstanding presentation of an intense feeling which very few can visualize within & still few who can have such vivid empathy and experience the feeling within.
Kudos to you for this beauty & thoughts.
