Man is somewhat like an onion:

For all his layers,
His skin is thin and fragile.

If he sometimes irritates:

To those tears,
Let us not add ones of regret.

    As to onions being important in most recipes…not so sure about adding them to apple pie and custard 😉

    I guess it is a first for onions to be used as a metaphor and a simile in a poem . The clarity of the concept is overwhelming .You could build further on this one ..
