Step up here on the kerb with me
Step up here, let me have my say
Is there any reason for me to stay?
Is there a reason to stay?
Is there any reason? Any reason?
Is there any reason for me to stay?
Before I step on that bus
And it’s the end of us
Is there any reason to stay?

A sunny day on that village street
On that sunny village street
I had a million reasons for you
A million reasons for you to stay
A million reasons. A million reasons
A million reasons for you to stay
Now a lifetime later
And a world away
Now a long, long way away

In a hospice room the sun shone through
But the robins had all flown away
You’d another question to ask of me
A different question that day
Different question that day

I’m so tired that I can’t go on
I’m just too tired to carry on
If I step beyond is it Okay with you?
Is it Okay if I cannot stay?
It’s Okay with you? It’s Okay with you?
It’s Okay if I step away?
Step away?

Step up here with me
Step up, let me have my say
Is there a reason for me
Any reason to stay?

  1. Kusum says:

Glad to see a poem from you Gion after a long interval.
Too many questions in this poem.
    No use dilly dallying.
Better to step on and be done with it
    Best wishes
    Kusum

  2. Gion Gion says:

My Wife hung on to say her goodbyes to family and friends
but she grew just too tired and asked me “Is it OK with you if I go to next life soon?”
The poem/song lyrics are the start and end of our world

  3. Gion Gion says:

Revised version. Hope this fits best with the music.

  4. So sorry to hear of the real
    facts.
I would have said ‘ No it is not Okay to go away, find half a reason to stay’.
but goodbyes , I guess mark the way , sometimes it is okay to go away.
Away, away from all the pain and distress.
